No child should ever lose confidence in themselves

For a child, nothing feels more important than fitting in and belonging.

But unfortunately, many disadvantaged students are singled out by their peers simply because they cannot read as well as their classmates.

Because of this, they become embarrassed and fall behind in class...

And this destroys their confidence and fills them with self-doubt.

As a result, their struggle often continues as unfortunately this underachievement and lack of self-confidence can last throughout their school years.

Or worse, for their entire lives.

And without your support, these kids are unlikely to ever catch up.

Right now, there are 1,254 students waiting to participate in our student2student program to improve their reading sklills and build their self-confidence.

But we need your support to expand the program in 2013 to give these kids a chance for a better future.

Your can help in the following ways:

> $49 will train a reading buddy to improve reading skills in a disadvantaged student

> $100 will pay for an 8 book pack for a student and their buddy to read during the program

> $574 will allow one disadvantaged child to take part and complete the program

The Problem

Right now, we have 1,254 students like Bailey who are waiting to join our student2student program to improve their reading skills and build their self-confidence.

These students arrive at school without the necessary early building blocks of literacy and numeracy which puts them behind their peers.

So they end up falling behind and find it hard to do well at school.

And they can be singled out and ridiculed by other students which affects their confidence and self-worth.

This can continue into adulthood as their poor reading skills means they are left with fewer choices and opportunities for the future.

Please help these kids make the most of their education to give them a chance for a better future.

The Solution

Our student2student program is a home-based reading program that matches students who are falling behind in their reading with specially-trained reading buddies.

Over 18 weeks, the buddy calls the student 2-3 times and helps them with their reading.

The role of the buddy is to help them improve their reading by encouraging them to read aloud and work out problem words for themselves.

The key to success is that the buddies are students themselves, and research shows that students falling behind respond better to help from buddies near their own age.

There are currently 1,254 disadvantaged students that need your support right now.

How you can help
